The school
Erasmus School of Economics.
Studying at Erasmus School of Economics means room for ambition and personal growth. Erasmus School of Economics offers you high-level, activating academic education in the cosmopolitan city of Rotterdam, building on a long tradition of economic excellence. Jan Tinbergen was the first Nobel Memorial Prize winner in economic sciences in 1969, and his student Prof. P.J. Verdoorn started the rigorous, economics-based marketing tradition in 1952 as one of the first, if not the first, in Europe.
Personal development and academic formation are central at our school. Strong relationships with partners in the Netherlands and beyond provide opportunities to broaden your own horizons, to put acquired knowledge into practice, and to build a network. There is a lot of room to work on the marketing challenges of today and of the future. In this way, as a student you become knowledgeable in marketing and learn to reflect on its societal function.

The programme
Why study Marketing at Erasmus School of Economics?
Every successful product starts with a question: what do people need? This programme will help you understand customer behaviour, and turn customer insights into innovative products people genuinely want. From there, you learn to bring that product to market: pricing it, positioning it, distributing it, promoting it.
Marketing is a core strategic decision, determining whether a product succeeds or fails. Making that decision well takes more than intuition. Economics gives marketing a rich analytical toolkit and a disciplined, evidence-based approach, from the earliest idea to the moment a product reaches the market. It gives you a rigorous way to turn scattered signals, such as reviews, social media and customer conversations, into insight about unmet needs. It gives you tools to screen ideas, and to shape a new product before it exists, rather than guessing what customers will want. It helps you design and target campaigns, from ad copy to media planning, using experiments and data rather than intuition. And it gives you a way to measure what actually happened once a product is in the market. What drove sales? What was a marketing decision worth?
We rebuild courses as the job market moves. You will find AI in customer insights, analytics, content creation, and marketing workflow automation. And you are a participant, not a spectator: small groups instead of crowded lecture halls, strategy simulations, live company cases, theses on real problems with real data. In many courses you will not just listen to guest speakers, you will learn to explain and justify your analysis to decision-makers who have to act on it.
